Annis School of Engineering now offers four specialized areas of study in the exciting and fast-growing fields of Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial & Systems Engineering, and Computer Science. UIndy is one of few schools in Indiana to offer these unique and innovative programs, which will provide you with authentic design opportunities invigorated by a vast general education core that develops well-rounded professionals.
About R.B. Annis
Robert B. Annis (1907-1999) was an inventor, entrepreneur and researcher. Mr. Annis dedicated his life to encouraging students to embrace discovery and science as a way to impact the world. His connection to the University of Indianapolis (then known as Indiana Central College) began when he brought the Central Indiana Regional Science Fair to campus, an event which the University hosted for many years. He lived the philosophy of mentoring students in the sciences and encouraging them to explore the wonders of research. In addition to the R.B. Annis School of Engineering, his relationship with the University of Indianapolis lives on through the endowed Miriam F. Annis Memorial Scholarship (in memoriam to his late wife) and the R.B. Annis Auditorium, located in the UIndy Health Pavilion.
The Design Spine Curriculum
The curriculum emphasizes project-oriented courses integrated with hands-on experiences. Students who study a broader variety of subjects develop valuable communication skills such as business and technical writing, public speaking and presentation readiness. This unique educational experience encourages students to immerse themselves in the engineering world by challenging themselves to think bigger, imagine greater and continuously work to improve and expand their knowledge. Mechanical Engineering: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, mechanical engineering jobs are growing at a 5% per decade rate and is one of the largest fields in engineering, employing nearly 280,000. The average salary is $71,580 in Indiana and $83,060 nationally.
Software Engineering: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the growth rate of software engineering is faster than the rate of computer hardware engineers because more innovation takes place with software than hardware. Additionally, software engineers work in a variety of companies and the average salary is $85,000 in Indiana and $106,000 nationally.
Computer Science: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for professionals in the field of computer science is $69,140 in Indiana and $86,170 nationally.
